Summary
This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) Enlisted position.
Air Reserve Technicians are part of the regular civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. In addition, ARTs are required to maintain active membership in an Air Force Reserve unit so long as they occupy Air Reserve Technician positions. As members of reserve units, ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month. In addition, they are eligible for 15 days active duty tour each year for which military leave is granted with full civilian pay. Air Reserve units and members are subject to immediate call to active duty in mobilization to meet a national emergency.
This is a standing register used to fill position at AFRC locations as vacancies occur. Some positions may have promotion potential to a higher grade than the grade being filled. Multiple vacancies may be filled from this announcement. The beginning and ending salaries may vary depending on location of position.
The first cut-off for this announcement is two (2) weeks from the opening date of this announcement. After the first cut off, the cut-off will be the 25th of each month.
The cut-off date for these positions is the 25th of each month. Therefore, if we receive your application by midnight on the 25th of the month, you are eligible to go on the register the following month. Some positions covered may or may not be obligated. Therefore, the selectee may be displaced by reassignment or reduction in force procedures at a later time should the previous incumbent exercise his/her reemployment rights.
Retired military are usually ineligible for membership in the Air Force Reserve. Retired military personnel who have active Air Force Reserve assignments may apply provided they show assignment (position and unit) on their application.

Responsibilities
The primary purpose of this Air Reserve Technician (ART) enlisted position is to test, troubleshoot, repair and modify aircraft pneudraulic systems and to provide training to reservists in the accomplishment of tasks set forth therein. Incumbent of this position will perform the following duties:
Conduct periodic maintenance inspections on all hydraulically operated systems on aircraft.
Make initial technical order changes and follow-up by bench tests.
Utilize safety practices and procedures and complies with the security regulations, directives, and policies.
Ensure tool control procedures are followed.
Verify and certify work produced under USAF Technical Order Program.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Position may or will require incumbent to: (1) Must be a United States Citizen. Incentives and Special Pay Rates may or may not apply. (2) Meet and maintain Air Force Reserve military requirements. Incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties; however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. (3) Work uncommon tours of duty. (4) Obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance. (5) Some positions covered by this announcement may be designated as drug-testing positions where the incumbent may be subject to random drug testing. (6) Some positions under this announcement may be controlled positions covered by the Personnel Reliability Program (PRP). (7) Lift up to 79 pounds. (8) Stand, bend, and stoop for extended periods of time. (9) Operate a crane, truck, tractor, or motor vehicle. (10) Work outside in inclement weather. (11) Be exposed to solvents, grease, oils, radiant energy, electrical energy. excessive noise, vibration, slippery and uneven walking surfaces. (12) Work on ladders or scaffolding and in areas around machinery with moving parts, moving objects or vehicles. (13) Preferred Military AFSC 2A6X5 (14) Disclosure of Political Appointments.
ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Position may or will require incumbent to: (1) Fly in military and/or commercial aircraft in the performance of temporary duty (TDY) assignments. (2) Incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties: however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. (3) Position may require a background security investigation to determine suitability for employment and/or a security clearance.
Qualifications
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
Element A - Ability to do the work of an Aircraft Pneudraulic System Mechanic (Hydraulics). Element B - Ability to use hand tools, powered tools, specialized tools, and support equipment. Identify the hand tools, power tools, specialized tools, and related support equipment that you have used and give brief examples of the work performed with each. Element C - Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, and repair of aircraft hydraulic systems. Element D - Knowledge of Aircraft Hydraulics Systems Mechanic technical practices. Element E - Ability to use test equipment and measuring instruments. Element F - Troubleshooting of Aircraft Hydraulic Systems. Element G - Ability to work from instructions, specifications, blueprints, personal inspections, etc.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
