Summary
The selectee for this position will serve as a Physical Science Technician in the Radiological Control Office of PSNS and IMF.
This position will require 22-26 weeks of 'off-yard training' in Norfolk, VA.
A 'Continued Service Agreement' for the off-yard training is required to be signed.
Responsibilities
You will oversee the performance of work on reactor plant systems.
You will perform measurements with instruments that detect radiation.
You will check work sites within ships and facilities to ensure proper care of radioactive materials.
You will advise workers regarding controls for handling radioactive materials.

Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
THIS IS A DIRECT HIRE ANNOUNCEMENT. Section 1125 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017 authorizes the Secretary of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates directly to positions in the competitive service at any domestic Defense Industrial Base Facility or Major Range and Test Facilities Base. Minimum qualification requirements are as follows:
For the GS-4 position:
Your resume must demonstrate at least 6 months general experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-03) level or pay band, and 6 months specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-03) level or pay band in the Federal, private or public sector: performing basic standardized checks utilizing manual or automated systems to ensure results of analysis or documented procedures performed are correctly recorded in accordance with standardized procedures and operations.

Successful completion of 2 years of education above the high school level that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses such as physical science, engineering, or any branch of mathematics, except financial and commercial mathematics.
For the GS-5 position:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-04), level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: conducting radiation control surveillance of activities, personnel or materials to ensure "radiological control inspection requirements" are appropriately recorded, maintained and met.

Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study above the high school level leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with a major study in an appropriate field of physical science, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as physical science, engineering, or any branch of mathematics, except financial and commercial mathematics.
