Summary
About the Position:
THIS IS AN OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT FOR 3 MONTHS (however, may extended longer) - THE INITIAL CUT-OFF DATE FOR REFERRAL CONSIDERATION IS 24 OCT 18; AFTERWARD, REFERRALS WILL BE PULLED AS VACANCIES OCCUR.
This is a TERM position not to exceed 1 year and 1 day, and may be extended a maximum of 6 years.
Responsibilities
Reassembles, adjusts, tests, reinstalls equipment, and makes final adjustments to air and liquid cooled V-engines, L-engines, and opposed engines.
Repairing, rebuilding and installing a variety of mechanical and electrical systems, as well as units and components related to heavy duty mobile equipment.
Works on gasoline and/or diesel engines, precise power generator units, electronic governing systems, remote switching systems, high voltage static-automatic control systems of all types of mobile and field operation powered support systems.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) General Equipment Mechanic~ without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform common General Equipment Mechanic tasks including repairing and rebuilding fuel pumps, pistons, generators, and alternators; troubleshooting engines and generator units; and performing repairs on engines, generators, and electrical systems. I work under close supervisor of a work leader or journeyman General Equipment Mechanic who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Frequently works in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods. Work involves frequent bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, and crouching; sometimes works on the top of and under, vehicles in cramped or awkward positions. Mechanic lifts, carries and sets up items weighing up to 40 pounds; often puts forth similar efforts in pushing, pulling, turning, and positioning assemblies and equipment. Often lifts and moves heavier units with the assistance of other workers and with lifting devices such as jacks, hoists, and cranes.
Work is performed inside and occasionally outside; subject to extreme cold and dampness outside; shop area is heated and adequately ventilated. Work is dirty, greasy and noisy. Subject to possible injuries from tools and dropped units, such as strains, sprains, cuts, bruises, burns, and electrical shock, and slipping from work positions. Inside work is usually performed on concrete floors and involves exposure to exhaust and acid fumes. Follows numerous safety procedures and is required to wear protective gloves, ear plugs, goggles, masks, shoes or other safety clothing appropriate for this position.

THIS VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT WILL BE FILLED USING DIRECT-HIRE AUTHORITY FOR DOMESTIC DEFENSE INDUSTRIAL BASE (DIB) FACILITIES AND THE MAJOR RANGE AND TEST FACILITIES BASE (MRTFB) IN THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE.
