Summary
Within the West Los Angeles VA Women's Health Clinic, psychiatrists are an integral part of the interprofessional treatment team working closely with primary care, psychology, nursing, and social work to provide excellent outpatient psychiatric services to a diverse population of female veterans
Responsibilities
As a member of this integrative team, the psychiatrist helps to provide coordinated, integrated, rehabilitative and restorative mental health care, with the goal of helping eligible Veterans achieve and maintain the highest level of functioning and independence.
Major duties and responsibilities of outpatient psychiatric services include: providing psychiatric evaluations and consultations for women veterans seeking care, and ongoing psychiatric treatment in the clinic. Common psychiatric disorders treated in the clinic include PTSD, military sexual trauma, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and psychotic disorders. Additionally women are cared for throughout their life span, including providing pre-pregnancy consultations and care during pregnancy and the post-partum period. Infrequent overnight and weekend call is required.
Psychiatrists within the West Los Angeles Women's Health Center may provide clinical services in a virtual modality, including video telehealth, patient/provider secure messaging, telephone visits, and remote review of electronically forwarded medical records.
Work Schedule: Day Shift work; 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP): May be authorized
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement program within VHA. Final award amount and program start date is determined after review of a complete EDRP application and supporting documentation by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office. The West Los Angeles VA Women's Health Clinic is affiliated with the University of Los Angeles (UCLA) psychiatric residency program, and participates in academic activities including medical and residency education, and ongoing learning opportunities through UCLA Grand rounds. As such, the Psychiatrist is eligible for a health sciences clinical faculty appointment within the UCLA Geffen School of Medicine. Within the clinic, the Psychiatrist participates in the training of psychiatry residents and medical students. This includes teaching on topics important to women's mental health, such as military sexual trauma, and treatment of women in pregnancy and the postpartum period, and supervision of residents caring for patients within the clinic.
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience and additional position information:
Qualified/eligible to receive a UCLA faculty appointment in the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences.
Must become LPS certified during the first 5 months of employment.
Must pass a pre-employment physical.
On call nights and weekends will be required to fulfill obligation.
Must be able to work with the VA electronic medical record system.
Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.
Physical Requirements: The work of this position is sedentary in nature.
