Summary
VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System is seeking a staff physician for our Compensation and Pension section.
Responsibilities
The Pittsburgh VA is currently recruiting for permanent, full-time Physician in the Compensation & Pension and Occupational Health Department, H.J. Heinz Campus. The selectee will function as a staff physician for Compensation & Pension Clinic by conducting a wide range of medical examinations and assessments, providing expert medical opinions based on reviewing available information and medical records, collaborating with other members of the team and the Chief of the Department being a resource to Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) and medical center regarding disability benefits processes, providing medical examinations for various military-related exposures and injuries.
Major Duties/Responsibilities
~ Take detailed medical histories and performing complete physical examinations.
-Determine various levels of disability and whether or not injuries are due to exposures or injuries experienced while on active military service.
-Evaluate traumatic Brain Injury residuals
-Provide expert opinions for complex disability cases and appeals.
~ Receive training and certification as a Compensation and Pension provider through office of Disability and Medical Assessment (DMA) Office.
for Various Military Exposures, to include Agent Orange, Burn Pit, Camp Lejeune, etc.
~ Provide health assessments that effectively address the Veteran's physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs.
~ Provide diagnoses and their causality to various military exposures and injuries.
~ Provide expert medical assessments and opinions for various medical conditions.
~ Practice within the guidelines of the policies, procedures, and the standards of care/practice.
~ Maintain current knowledge of multidisciplinary resources, The Joint Commission, and related programs and services within this healthcare system.
~ Participate in quality improvement activities.
~ Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings regarding the care of Veterans.
~ Respond to emergencies called in Building 50, Ground North.
~ Collaborate with others in research activities to improve care.
~ Serve as collaborating physician, a mentor, and a resource for nurses, PA's and other health professionals.
~ Be flexible, organized, and able to adapt to change.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, day shift.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience: Training and Board Certification in Internal Medicine, Family Practice, Occupational Health or Rehabilitation Medicine.
Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to physically and mentally perform the duties of Physician under normal and emergent conditions. Moderate lifting 15-44 lbs and over with assistive devices, heavy carrying of 15-44 lbs and over with assistive devices; reaching above shoulder; use of fingers, both hands required, walking or standing up to 4 hours per day; repeated bending up to 1-2 hours per day; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination; near vision correctable; hearing aid permitted.
