Duties
Summary
Comprehensive pain management using a 3-tiered system that starts at the primary care level and progresses to evidenced based tertiary pain evaluation, treatment and management, including the full range of OR / Fluoroscopic interventional pain procedure(s) and / or narcotic management experience.
Responsibilities
This position will work with a interdisciplinary team. Physical Medicine & Rehabilitative Service (PM&RS) is a well established, highly valued service, made up of 78 personnel, including 9 full-time and one part-time physiatrist, two chiropractors, three APNs, 48 PT, OT, KT therapists, three RNs and 10 administrative staff. The service provides rehabilitation consultation and treatment services throughout the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System continuum of care. This includes a Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) accredited 15 bed inpatient unit as well as specialized diagnostic/treatment services for musculo-skeletal, neuro-rehabilitation and pain syndromes. PM&RS is a leader in advanced pain management services and Comprehensive Integrated Health, including Acupuncture, Dry Needling, IASTA, Yoga and Tai Chi.
Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System (CAVHS) itself is a large, highly complex (Level 1) facility offering Primary, Tertiary and Long Term Care level services at its two division campus (Little Rock/North Little Rock) and eight Community Based Outpatient Clinics. As the capitol city of Arkansas the Little Rock/North Little Rock area offers a wide range of cultural, recreational and educational opportunities. Arkansas is known for natural beauty, mild winters, and friendly atmosphere.
PM&RS providers, including MD, DO, APN, DC, PT, OT, KT, RN work collaboratively with other services at CAVHS in a multidisciplinary evidence based pain practice, including Radiology, Anesthesiology, Neurosurgical, Orthopedic, Pharmacy, and Whole Health services.
Duty location is Little Rock and North Little Rock, Arkansas at the Central Arkansas Healthcare System, with some intermittent travel to our Community Based Outpatient Clinics.
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement program. If selected for this position you must meet specific individual eligibility requirements, and submit your application with in four months of appointment. The final award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services Office.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Fluoroscopic / Ultrasound guided full range of interventional pain procedure experience
Expertise in the evaluation and management of neurological and musculoskeletal conditions and other pain syndromes
Expertise in physical diagnostics, spine, peripheral joint injections, spinal cord stimulators, and pain pumps
Unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration license
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification is required. If selected for this position, per VHA Directive 1177, you must possess current BCLS certification as you will provide direct clinical care to patients in this position.
Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.
